My father's DA Form 20, 1 Jan 1965 list his WWII MOS as 91B20 Cbt Med Aidman. His WD AGO FORM 53-55 1 November 1944 list his miltary occupational specialty and number as Sergical Technician 861. He was assigned to the 580th AAA Bn which was temporarily attached to many units, including the 103rd AAA Group, the 11th AAA Group, the 49th AAA Brigade and finally the 82nd Airborne Division. My father was assigned to the 49 AAA Brigade when they won their Meritorious Unit Award and wore the Meritorious Unit award patch on his lower right sleeve until his retirement in 1966. My question is this: On his tombstone, after SFC US Army, can I put COMBAT MEDIC? Or should I just put MEDIC? My research has indicated that there is (recently - modern time) debate about who can wear the Combat Medic Badge, and I understand that. But, during WWII was there such a distinction that would make it dishonest for me to put that on his tombstone? He also served during the Korean conflict and spent three and a half years in Vietman from 1959 to the middle of 1962 first working for MAAG, the MACV when that change came around. I know you guys are the experts. I don't want to put COMBAT MEDIC on his tombstone to later find out that I have dishonored my father by putting the wrong thing on his tombstone. Please help.
