I found my fathers name in the unknown divisions. He is pfc Quentin Davis, 117th, K Co. Purple Heart, Silver Star. He is 86 years old and living with me in Gulf Shores Alabama. Does anyone know the name of the battle or how I can find out the name of the battle where my grandfather received his silver star? Here is the article but it doesn't name the battle. We just completed creating a DVD of him speaking about his memories of the war, to send to the library of congress, and we would like to include the battle name. He turns 90 at the end of this month. He was a member of the 30th Infantry company D machine gunner drafted in Sept 1941 - May 1945 thank you!!

Leading his platoon up a hill that stood in the way of the advancement of his infantry company in France, Staff Sgt. Frank Misurelli, 25, son of Mr. & Mrs. Mike Misurelli won his objective after killing off the enemy with his blazing Tommy-gun and won for himself the Silver Star medal for outstanding gallantry in action.

The Seventh army headquarters in France announced the award, and the information was news to the family here. All that Frank had written home about was his receiving the Purple Heart in February.

After reaching the top of the hill, wiping out the enemy resistance, Misurelli called up his machine gun platoon and consolidated his position to permit other troops to advance.

Misurelli entered the service Sept. 13, 1941, while employed at the Vincent McCall Company. He went overseas two years later, taking part in North African, Sicilian, and Italian campaigns before being sent into France.

My father served in the 119th Infantry somerewhere in Germany during Sept. toNovember 23, 1944 when he died from wounds recieved in action. This happened in Friealdenhoven , Germany in a school building on November 21, 1944. He died in a field hospital somewhere in Holland on 11-23-44. I would so like to locate anyone who might have been with himduring this time, perhaps even a nurse at the field hospital. He was buried at Margarten until 1948 at which time my grandmother had him brought back to a family cemetary in north Alabama. He volunteered for service at Scottsboro Al. in April 44, did basic training at Camp Wheeler Ga. I was seven years old at this time.
I now belong to AWON, American World War II Orphans Network. There were 183,000of us and until recent years we felt so different and suffered alone. I am trying to locate anyone within K Co 119th that may remember events leading to the liberation of TROISGOTS. If my research is correct members of K Company assisted Lt Harry Hansen C Co 743rd Tank Bn in disabling two tanks in the centre of the town with bazookers....Lt Hansen subsequently won the DSC for this action. Hans "Hank" Spear was a member of the 30th Infantry Division's Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) during WWII. He is being recognized and honored on Wednesday February 27th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, after waiting 63 years, when he will be awarded the Bronze Star ("For Supervising Interrogations under Fire"). Although Hans was originally declared an "Enemy Alien" and initially inducted into the Medical Corps, he was later transferred to Camp Ritchie, Maryland where he graduated on January 31, 1944 from the "Military Intelligence Center" and was an original member of the "Ritchie Boys". He joined the 30th Infantry Division shortly after the landing at "Omaha Beach" on D-Day plus four. Hans will celebrating his 90th birthday in December 2008. He will also be a keynote speaker on Sunday March 16, 2008 at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona at 11:30 a.m. during the 125th Anniversary of the B'nai B'rith in Ariizona (founded in 1883 in Tucson, Arizona Territory). The event is hosted by the B'nai B'rith Sahuaro Lodge #763 (Hans Spear is the Lodge Chaplain), and will recognize, honor and thank our military veterans in attendance at the gala celebration banquet.

I am trying to find anyone that knew my father, Tom Harvey. I have almost no information, except that he received a silver star.

I am helping my father-in-law who is the historian for a Massachusetts chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He is trying to find information on a soldier KIA, but that's just about all the information he has, other than the details in the Subject line:

Douglas J. (Bud) Strand 30th Infantry Division 119th Infantry Regiment 1st Battalion Company D

We do not know where, when, or any other details around the death of Mr. Strand, or the history of his service while he was in Europe.

Any information I could pass along would be great. We are certainly willing to do further research if anyone can point to good sources to possibly find addtional information.

My grandfather served in Company K 117th Infanfry Regiment during WW II. I'm trying to find anyone who may have served with him. He passed away in 1966, and took his stories with him.
